13 For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and
laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or
trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not
adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man
can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate
nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and
power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide
the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be
capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently.
Philippians 4:8 Amplified
8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].
Philippians 4:13 Amplified
13
I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready
for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner
strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency].
You Can Overcome Dark Thoughts
Is there any way to handle the pain you’re facing? Can you ever escape it?With God’s help, the answer is yes. When thoughts of hurting yourself or giving up completely start flooding your mind, choose to reject the lies and focus instead on God’s promises to you. The Bible tells us that God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear and that He will always provide a way out so that you can endure it. With the power of Christ, you can conquer the demons trying to bring you down.
If you’ve been wrestling with suicidal thoughts or are considering harming yourself to release some of the pain, commit now to create an action plan for when you feel tempted to make a destructive decision. Remove anything from your environment that you could use to harm yourself, have numbers saved in your phone of people you can call and talk to, and start memorizing Scripture that will help you in the battle.
One great verse for you to memorize is Philippians 4:8, which tells us to focus our thoughts on the true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy things in our lives. Just a few verses later, in Philippians 4:13, we learn that we can do all these things through Christ who gives us strength. When we focus our attention on seeking God and stand firm in His strength, we can claim victory over anything life throws our way.
Remember, when you are weak, God is infinitely strong. When you don’t have the strength or will to go on anymore, call out to Him and He will bring you freedom. You can overcome dark thoughts!
Take a moment now to pray this to God: Jesus, thank You for promising me that I’ll never face a temptation that’s too much for me to handle--You’ll always provide a way out and strengthen me even during my weakest moment. Help me focus my thoughts on Your promises, instead of on the lies telling me it would be easier to give up. Through You, I am a conqueror, and I will overcome this. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
