Doorway of Destiny

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,
I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh,
and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams;
And, on My servants and on My handmaidens,
I will pour out in those days of My Spirit and they shall prophesy.”
Acts 2:17-18

“Be glad then, ye children of Zion and rejoice in the Lord
your God; for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he
will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain and the
latter rain in the first month…”
Joel 2:23

There is no doubt that we are living in the most exciting time of church history. The verses above tell us many things, but what I want to focus on is you are part of a prophetic purpose that is bigger than you. The biggest battles are always fought right before the biggest breakthroughs. I want to share a prophetic parallel with you that is relevant to us today. It is found in 1 Samuel 30.

Destiny is often delivered through the doorway of difficulty. We’ve been looking at David’s life to see God’s timeless kingdom principles at work. The text shows us Ziglag before Zion, or “the Battle before the Breakthrough.” There might be a battle in my life, but it indicates my breakthrough. Let’s examine the process from the text:

“Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag,
on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag,
attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire,
 and had taken captive the women and those who were there,
from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way.

 So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire;
and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive.
 Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept,
until they had no more power to weep.  And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess,
and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive.

 Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him,
because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters.
But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
I Samuel 30:1-6

David, anointed and called by God, is going through a catastrophic event. This thing is not just a battle. He is not late on a payment; it’s not that he got feelings hurt; and its not just a “bad hair” day. (Isn’t it amazing the things we lose our victory over?) David is facing devastation. For almost 17 years, starting with when he was called and anointed, he has been on the run.
You can be called and still face a crisis; a turning point for better or worse. The Word of God tells us in Matthew 5:45, that God “…sendeth rain on the just and the unjust…”
We often think because we are called and committed to God, we won’t go through difficult times. The truth is quite the opposite – Jesus said in the world we would have trouble, but not to fear because He had already overcome the world. Your faith doesn’t stop “life”; it carries you through life.
David has been a fugitive for a long time. Its important for me to give you the spoiler here: this horrific, hellacious hardship comes just before David’s ascent to the throne.David is getting ready to possess his promise as King over Israel. But David doesn’t see this coming because of all the hardships, and he has been living on the run for a long time.
David returns to Ziglag after a three-day journey. He’s weary and expecting to find rest. Instead, he discovers the city has been attacked, burned with fire, and his loved ones and many others taken prisoner! And every remaining person wants to stone him. But David encourages himself (strengthens himself) in the Lord. Wow!

Take courage from what we see in David’s life. Things are at their worst just before their best! You’ve been saying, “What is going on?” Perhaps you’ve even thought about giving up on everything.

You need to know that this is the “Battle Before the Breakthrough.” Don’t give up now! Encourage yourself in the Lord, even if it appears that everyone is against you!
Let’s see how it all turns out.

“So David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away,
and David rescued his two wives.  And nothing of theirs was lacking,
either small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything
which they had taken from them; David recovered all.
 Then David took all the flocks and herds they had driven before
those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s spoil.”
1 Samuel 30:18-20

Destiny is often delivered through the doorway of difficulty. Nothing you walk through ever catches God “off guard”. He’s omnipotent and omniscient – if your trial is not God sent, it IS God used! Also, every destiny is accompanied by a myriad of difficulties. The Lord knows how to deliver you out of what you are facing! 2 Peter 2:9 reassures us, “The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations…” While you are facing trouble and adversity, GOD is behind the scenes working out your deliverance. Trust in Him as you fight the battle, and encourage yourself in the Lord. He IS on the way, and His reward is with Him!
