An unidentified man sat down on the board over the third rail at the
Utica Station in Brooklyn, causing delays on the C line Friday morning,
authorities say.
Cops rescued an emotionally disturbed man who sat down on the tracks at
a Brooklyn subway station in an apparent suicide bid Friday morning,
authorities said.
The 45-year-old parked himself on the protective board that covers the electrified third rail at the Utica Ave. station on the C line and refused to budge, authorities said.
Police Emergency Service Unit officers managed to remove the distraught man, who was taken to Kings County Hospital.
Transit workers had to cut the power to the tracks in the area for
about an hour starting at about 9:30 a.m. The third rail carries 600
volts of electricity to propel trains.
During the sit-off, C local trains ran express between Broadway Junction and Hoyt-Schermerhorn.
Service on the No. 3 line was disrupted in Brooklyn at about the same time after another man accidentally fell off the platform at the Crown Heights-Utica Ave. station, authorities said.
He was taken to Kings County Hospital with body trauma.
