Doing Battle in Prayer

We have to engage the enemy that attacks us using the proper weapons. But sometimes we are so overwhelmed we don’t even know what to pray. There are times when words fail and human intelligence fumbles with the articulation of what it is we need. When life knocks the breath out of you, God understands the words contained in a single tear. When words fail, we can rely on the Holy Spirit to pray through us. Relying on the Spirit to pray “builds up” your spirit man in the places where you need it most.

 

“We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.” Romans 8:26-27

 

When we pray in the Spirit, the Spirit of God intercedes for us according to whatever Gods will is. Back up a little. The verse says that the Holy Spirit searches our hearts. Since the Spirit of God searches our hearts, He already understands what we don’t even know how to put into words. He knows what we want, we need, how we hurt and what we long for…he searches every feeling we have! Think about that. He is acquainted with every part of you intimately. The Spirit of God also knows His will for our lives. God’s Spirit aligns our heart’s desires and God’s will, and prays that for that to come to pass!
