David: The Overcomer Part 1

David was raised and released in his set time because God had a purpose for Him. God declared about David that He had found a man after His own heart; which shall fulfill, do and complete, all of His will. This proclamation by God about David at first can sound daunting or intimidating, but when we read David’s story, I think we all find something to which we can relate.
David’s life was never about mere existence, but about fulfilling the will of God. David had an earnest, sincere, simplistic love for God that caused him to live, breathe and move. David always had purpose.
You are more than just a physical body taking in oxygen. You were purposely formed and planned in the mind of God to fulfill His Will. You are an intricate piece of His master puzzle and plan. That’s why He formed you, designed you, and fashioned you just the way you are - your genetics, personality, and race were all purposely selected by Him in love and awe.
It is vital you understand and accept that scriptural fact, or you will spend a lifetime trying to become what you were not created to be.
When David arose to fight Goliath, not one soldier in the army would dare challenge the giant. Out of an entire army of warriors, it was David who stood up to the 9+ foot challenger – not out of a desire for glory, but out of a zeal for God and pure faith that God was with him. How dare anyone disrespect God’s army?
Next, David asked for permission from King Saul to go up against Goliath. David had a respect for God’s chosen king. David knew his value in God’s eyes and did not covet a higher position just so he could feel better about himself.
When the king gave his permission to David to up against Goliath, he tried to give David his own personal armor. But David refused - it did not fit him right.
You can’t force yourself to “fit” into someone else’s armor for your battle – no matter how impressive that person is. Your battle is designed for you to fight with God on your side. It doesn’t matter what title a person has, how many degrees, how big their bank account is, or how many cars are in their driveway. David could only face Goliath using his own talents, and you can only face your struggle using yours.
You were supposed to be “you” - not Johnny or Suzi. We must get to a place where we esteem ourselves based solely on the irreplaceable worth God gives us as His children.
God created your uniqueness. He gave you your own set of hand prints which will never be duplicated. While you are trying to cram yourself into a “cookie-cutter mold”, you must realize it is your difference that makes you so valuable. It is the rare artifact that is priceless!
We are so blessed to live in the time we are in right now. God has revealed to us the truths in His Word that state we need to celebrate our uniqueness and esteem our differences. Our unique differences set us apart and equip us to fulfill the plan and purpose of God for our lives (1 Corinthians 12:12-30).
So David, this great man of God, victorious warrior, man after God’s heart, anointed prophet and priest…will do all the will of the Father. He will do it all!
What David will also demonstrate to us is that the process of doing the Father’s will, and the inevitable mishaps along the way, is going to be accomplished by much fighting along a journey full of pain and problems. Through all of David’s struggles, tragedies and low points, God shows us one very strong common denominator: David is always victorious, and God never leaves David’s side. David is always victorious, and so, beloved, are you. You are an overcomer!
