Man presumed dead, woman hospitalized in unrelated suicide attempts off George Washington Bridge

A 29-year-old South American man jumped from the south walkway on the span’s New Jersey side just after 7 p.m. Friday and is presumed dead. A minute later, a 25-year-old woman climbed over the railing, but two motorists jumped from their cars and grabbed her, officials said.

Two people attempted to leap from the George Washington Bridge one minute apart from each other Friday night, officials said.
A man succeeded and is presumed dead, but a woman was stopped by good Samaritans who leaped from their cars and grabbed her before she could take her life. The unrelated suicide bids began just after 7 p.m. when a 29-year-old South American man jumped from the south walkway on the span’s New Jersey side. He left a backpack behind.
A moment later, a 25-year-old woman climbed over the railing on the Jersey-bound side. Two motorists raced over and grabbed her, officials said.
The woman has been hospitalized and faces drug charges after cops found heroin on her person, officials said.
