In the wake of last weeks tragic murder-suicide in Greenwood,
South Carolina, another Greenwood resident has allegedly placed a 911
call disturbingly similar to the call placed by Bryan Sweatt before he killed his family and then took his own life.
Greenwood Today reported that on Friday night, Joseph Tyler Ray Sullivan, 22, called 911 threatening to kill his wife and himself. Before disconnecting, Sullivan said
"No, I am just kidding."
Greenwood County Sheriff's Office dispatched deputies to 133 Devore Road, where Sullivan was found with alcohol on his breath. Sullivan admitted to drinking a 12-pack of beer and was feeling overwhelmed with his problems. He was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
The wife met with deputies at Northside Middle School and explained what took place in the home. She and Sullivan were allegedly arguing over problems when Sullivan began yelling that he hated her.
The victim has a 7-month old child (the same age as the child belonging to slain mother Chandra Fields), whom she was rocking when Sullivan entered the room and pointed his shotgun at her. After putting the baby down, Sullivan pinned the victim to the wall, again threatening to kill her.
Fortunately, the victim was able to flee the home with her child. It was determined the shotgun was loaded with three rounds.
How do the readers feel this case should be handled? Keep in mind several of these deputies possibly worked the case last week when the Fields family was murdered in the worst murder-suicide to ever come out of Greenwood County.
It is this writer's opinion that whether this young man was "just kidding," or not, the threat to take someone's life should never, ever be taken lightly. Any man who would do this to his wife, especially after a recent tragedy still fresh in the minds of Greenwood residents, isn't much of a man at all.
