Texas cop commits murder-suicide days after posting gun review about protecting wife: investigators

Sgt. Nick Pitofsky, 47, allegedly shot his wife Vanessa, 42, then took his own life in their home near Dallas. The cop had posted a video where he reviewed a Mossberg 500 shotgun five days before the tragedy.

 

A Texas cop shot committed murder-suicide days after posting a video online claiming he'd bought a shotgun to protect his wife, police said.
Sgt. Nick Pitofsky, 47, allegedly gunned down spouse Vanessa, 42, at their Dallas-area home on Tuesday before turning the weapon on himself.

Their corpses were found the following morning.
The tragedy happened just five days after the Crandall cop uploaded a review of his new Mossberg 500 shotgun to YouTube's Scout Tactical Channel.

The Crandall, Tex. cop had posted a review of his Mossberg 500 shotgun, 'a self-defense weapon,' five days before the tragedy.

"I purchased this as a self-defense weapon for my household, essentially for my wife," the self-confessed gun nut said to camera.
Revealing she was "only 5-foot-4 and a buck 20," he said his wife was "not a big fan" of the weapon - but said she "understood the usefulness of it."

The couple had been married three years.

"I purchased her several handguns. She prefers to use those," he added.
The motive behind the murder-suicide, of the couple who'd been married for three years, is currently unclear.
