We Can't Rely on Emotions to Lead Us the Right Way
We Can't Rely on Emotions to Lead Us the Right Way
by Joyce MeyerIt’s easy to make decisions based on what we want, think and feel―or what our emotions tell us is the right thing, right now. But we have to be very careful not to be led by emotions. We need to follow something much wiser and much more dependable―and that is the Word of God.
Even after years of study we may still not be able to apply every bit of wisdom God’s Word has for us, but we will have made considerable progress―and we’re covered by God’s grace and mercy as we continue to learn and grow.
How to Know God’s Will from Your Own
It’s challenging sometimes to discern if what we want is in line with what God wants for us because when we feel strongly about something, we can easily deceive ourselves into thinking it’s God’s will―and the devil will help us do it. He will even lead us to take Scripture out of context if it will keep us deceived and living in sin.First Corinthians 2:14 says that to those in the world, truths revealed by the Spirit sound like foolishness. Only spiritual people can understand the things of the Spirit. And sometimes it’s even very difficult for spiritual people to do!
I can tell you that when you’re truly being led by the Spirit, your head can have a hard time understanding what God’s doing because He often seems unreasonable. He will do many things in your life that you just cannot understand.
I used to be so confused about some of the things God allowed to happen in my life. But when I look back at them today, I can say, “Now I know why that had to happen. Now I know why that took place.”
God knows more than we know, His ways are above our ways, and He has a better plan for our lives than we do. Instead of being led by our feelings, we need to be led by God, even when we don’t understand.
How to Manage Unstable Emotions
If we want to improve in this area, we have to let God show us some truth about ourselves. We need Him to reveal the root of our problem because if we see it, we can deal with it, and then we can avoid the feelings that come from it. So we can pray for God to reveal those things to us. But feelings are unpredictable by nature, so we also need to learn how to manage them when they change unexpectedly. It’s amazing how you can straighten up your attitude just by having a little chat with yourself. Your family may not be everything you’d like them to be, but you have a family. Your house might not be everything you’d like it to be, but you’re not on the street. You may not like your job, but somebody out there wants it. You may not even like your spouse, but I guarantee you there’s someone out there who would be happy to take them off your hands.
Victory is pretty much impossible until we learn how to live beyond our feelings.
They can change so quickly! Feelings make us cry one hour and laugh the next. They behave better when circumstances are good, and they act up during periods of waiting and change. I want you to master your feelings. I want you to own your emotions, not let them own you.
Colossians 3:2 says we should set our mind and keep it set on things above. If you will make a decision today to live by the Word instead of how you feel, I guarantee that a year from now you will be a different person―and I hope, very pleased with your progress.

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit
by Joyce Meyer - posted June 01, 2015If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts [gifts that are to their advantage] to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him! Luke 11:13
Today's verse promises that God will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. You can ask God to fill you and baptize you in the Holy Spirit right now, right where you are. Here is a prayer you may want to use.
"Father, in Jesus' name, I ask You to baptize me in the Holy Spirit with all the evidence that accompanies being filled with the Spirit. Grant me boldness as You did those who were filled on the Day of Pentecost, and give me any other spiritual gifts You desire me to have."
Now, you may want to confirm your faith by saying out loud, "I believe I have been filled with the Holy Spirit, and I will never be the same again." If you have prayed the prayer above, or a similar one, wait on God quietly and believe that you have received what you have asked for.
If you don't believe you have received, then even if you have received, it will be to you as though you have not. I want to stress again the importance of believing by faith that you have received, not making your decision based on how you feel. Throughout the day, meditate on the fact that God lives in you and through Him you can do anything you need to do.
Being filled with the Holy Spirit is one of the most wonderful things that can ever happen to a believer. His presence gives you courage, hope, peace, joy, wisdom, and many other wonderful things. Seek Him with your whole heart daily.
Think the Universe Isn't Supporting You? Think Again.
Think the Universe Isn’t Supporting You? Think Again.
All in the same day.
A story starts running through your head, mostly consisting of thoughts like “Why me?” “Why is the universe out to get me?” and “Why doesn’t anything ever go my way?”
It’s important to realize that you are at a very important crossroads during these times. It’s a crossroads that each of us faces every moment of the day – but it becomes particularly pronounced during tough times.
You, my friend, have an amazing opportunity to choose love over fear. @BethanyButzer

You
can choose to believe that everyone is out to get you and that more bad
luck is right around the corner. Or you can choose to believe that, in
some way that you don’t completely understand, you are being loved,
supported, and held by the universe. You are being guided through
situations and events that are for your highest good.It might seem hard to believe, but you are always being supported by the universe, even when this “support” doesn’t feel like support at the time.
Maybe you’re experiencing a break up so that you can face and overcome your own demons. Maybe you didn’t get that job because there’s a better opportunity on the way. Maybe you flushed your phone down the toilet because you desperately need a break from technology. Here’s an example. A little over a year ago, my husband and I had to evict tenants from a house that we’d decided to rent out. It was our first home, and we’d loved and cherished it. The tenants had created thousands of dollars in damage, so my husband had to spend six weeks back home in Canada to renovate and sell the place. I stayed in Boston, feeling terribly stressed and lonely. We couldn’t afford to rent our place in Boston and continue to pay our mortgage back home, so it was essential that we sell the house quickly. On top of this, both of my husband’s parents were struggling with serious illnesses, and he was doing his best to care for them at the same time. Then, a few days before my husband was scheduled to come back to Boston, his mother passed away.
At the time, we were both stressed to the max and wondering why all of these terrible things kept happening. However now, looking back, we realize that if we hadn’t had terrible tenants and needed to sell our house, my husband wouldn’t have spent six weeks with his mother before she passed away. He wouldn’t even have been in the same country during her passing. In time, we also realized that selling our house was a blessing in disguise. We were able to pay off a lot of debt – and now we have a level of freedom that allows us to make exciting decisions about what to do next.
Another example involves the recent passing of my cat, Chloe. She died very unexpectedly, and I was crushed. However I can also see that there was a blessing in her passing. She would not have enjoyed the transition and change involved in the adventures that are coming next for me. And as much as I miss her, I can see how not having her around gives me a level of freedom that I didn’t have before. Sometimes, when the universe strips you bare, it’s actually a gift.
You can probably think of examples like this from your own life. Situations that felt excruciatingly difficult at the time, but when you look back you realize that these were periods of immense personal growth that carried sweet, unnoticed blessings.
The trick, I believe, is to try to see the beauty in difficult times while they are happening, instead of only realizing their importance in hindsight.
This is what I’m trying to do right now. In June and July my husband and I are taking a two month sabbatical to go live in the woods. We have exciting things planned for August – however for some reason obstacles keep getting in our way. Strange logistical issues keep popping up that are jeopardizing our ability to do what we want to do when we want to do it.Instead of asking myself, “Why us?” “Why can’t this situation just be easy and flow?” I’m trying to trust that the universe is supporting me, and that everything will work out with perfect timing. Things might not happen in the exact order and on the exact dates that I want them to, but they will happen in a way that is for my highest good – even if I can’t see that right now.
Here is what I’d like you to do. Think of a situation that’s really stressing you out or getting you down. Then try to find the hidden blessing. It might be something small – but it will be immensely meaningful.
